HackadayU is an online education platform focusing on hardware engineering, computer security, and semiconductor physics. The project was launched in Summer 2020 and, to date, has already enrolled over 2,000 students across a dozen different courses. For this project, I have developed a custom landing page in collaboration with illustrator Joe Kim. In addition to traditional Web design elements, the website also includes several easter eggs that resonate strongly with a target audience, increase brand engagement, and have tremendously helped with the “virality” of this initiative on social media.
Website design combines the Hackaday.com editorial illustration aesthetics with strong typography and ample use of negative space, to create a sense of opennes and potential.
Though the page layout is quite simple, the page itself is packed with Easter Eggs that aim at provoking visitor curiosity and showcase the hidden depth behind a seemingly straightforward page concept.
